A New Year comes with New Year’s Resolutions or goals for the coming year, unfortunately rarely kept. The reason is often because these goals are not well stated. Now is a good time to look at your business and decide where you would like to be in one year’s time and then set realistic goals which will lead you there.
A great motivational influencer who is a favorite of Dr. Katharin von Gavel, President & CEO of Footlogix, is the late Jim Rohn, a master educator in the area of goal setting. He had a simple yet powerful strategy which she would like to share with you.
Before planning for the future you need to know where you are right now. Write down the current state of your business and evaluate if you are OK with the status quo or if you would like to change. This gives you a baseline to work from so you can “dream” and formulate your goals for the coming year.
Jim Rohn uses the acronym S.M.A.R.T. goals referring to: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-sensitive.
Specific – ambiguous goals produce ambiguous results, so be specific.
Measurable – it is important that the goals are specific so that they can be measured, be they in terms of clients, sales, staff, income etc.
Attainable – don’t set goals which are so high that they cannot be attained.
Realistic – can you really make this happen? Maybe you need to specify x, y, or z to make the goal realistic.
Time-sensitive – every goal should have a timeline, an end, a time by which it will be accomplished.Where do you see your Footlogix business this time next year? You will probably need to write a number of small goals in order to meet the big goal. Start planning now. How can Footlogix help you meet or exceed these goals?
